Amol Palekar biography

Amol Palekar is a distinguished actor of the 70s and later on directed lots of notable Indian movies. He was born on November 24th in the year 1944.

He did his graduation from the J.J. School of Art; he was an actor and director of Marathi Theater in the evenings and a bank clerk during the daytime. Amol  Palekar made his first appearance in the year 1971 with the renowned Marathi movie ”Shanata! Court Chalu Aahe” directed by Satyadev Dubey, this movie began a new era in the Marathi film industry. AmolPalekar made his first entry in the Hindi film industry with the film “Rajanigandha” directed by Basu Chatterji. In this movie he played the role of a clerk, and then in later movies, he played a middle-class young man such as chhoti Si Baat, Chitchor, Gharonda, Batoon Batoon Mein, Damaad, Do Ladke Dono Kadke, Rang Birangi, Naram Garam, and Golmal. 

Although, Amol Palekar made a thriving pair initially with Vidya Sinha and later on with Zarina Wahab, he discontinued the hit pairs later. Films directed by him are “Thoda Sa Romani Ho Jayen”, “Mriganayani” and “Dayera”, which were stated as exceptional, thoughtfully made movies on the life of a transvestite. Amol Palekar made his debut as a director with the Marathi movie ”Aakriet”.

Amol Palekar proved his capacities as a director with the film ”Paheli” which was nominated in the Best Foreign Film at the 2006 Oscar Awards.
